Announcement and Technical Program
The U.S. Hydro 2009 Conference, sponsored by The Hydrographic Society of America, will be held
at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel in Norfolk, Virgina on May 11-14, 2009. U.S. Hydro 2009 is a
continuation of the series of hydrographic conferences that alternate between the United States
and Canada. This is the twelfth U.S. Hydrographic conference and follows on the very
successful U.S. Hydro 2007, also held in Norfolk, Virginia.
In addition to the technical papers, the conference will feature an extensive series of
workshops, social program, and an exhibition hall.
The conference will include technical sessions and a poster session on the latest developments and applications
in hydrographic surveying, multibeam and side scan sonar, data management, electronic charting,
marine archaeology, and related topics.
Authors are invited to submit abstracts of 300 words or less for papers on these topics to
the Program Chairman, Captain Guy Noll, NOAA (papers@ushydro2009.com) by December 9, 2008. Notification of acceptance will be made by February 1, 2009. The deadline for submission of papers and inclusion
on the CD will be March 7, 2009. The submitted abstract must include the following:
- Title of proposed paper.
- Author name(s) and contact information, including title, employer, address, telephone, and email.
- Identification of primary author and intended presenter.
Guidelines for submitting the paper and presentation materials will be sent to authors when notified of acceptance. The final paper must be consistent with the approved abstract.
Registration
The conference registration fee includes admission to technical sessions, workshops, exhibit
hall, two hosted receptions (Monday evening Registration Icebreaker and Tuesday evening
Exhibitor's Social), and the traditional Wednesday evening hosted banquet; at Nauticus.
One day registrations do not include the social functions.
The Full/One day Conference registration for Members is $325/$150 and for Non-Members $450/ $200.
Students of member organizations may register for $50 (excludes Wednesday Banquet)
A 'Member' is an Individual Member in good standing as of February 1, 2009, in one of the
following: The Hydrographic Society of America, The Canadian Hydrographic Association, The
Federation of National Hydrographic Societies, or Hydrographic Society Russia.
There is no charge for accompanying guests. Extra social tickets for the Tuesday and
Wednesday social events may be purchased for $25 and $50 respectively.
There will be NO 'Exhibits Only' category. All persons must register as one of the above
categories to view the Exhibits!

Exhibits
Over 50 exhibitors of hydrographic survey equipment and services are expected to be on
hand. Exhibits will be open from May 12 through May 14.
The Sheraton Waterside is adjacent to Norfolk's Waterside Marina. On-the-water demonstrations
by providers of hydrographic equipment and software are expected.

Accommodations
A block of rooms have been reserved at the Sheraton Waterside Hotel at the rate of $115 per night. This rate does not include state and local taxes, currently 13% plus $1 local room tax. There is no charge for additional persons in the room and free broadband internet access is included.
